The Shuswap is a thriving gateway to a world of adventure, and a stunning place to start your beadtrailing exploits. Whether you are exploring mountains, towns or alpine meadows you will inevitably be drawn to the sparkling centrepiece that is Shuswap Lake. It won’t take you long to discover why the lake is one of the most popular recreational destinations in BC, especially with house boaters who are serious about having fun!
Follow our map to find The Adams River Salmon Society, and if you time your trip for mid-October you will witness the amazing crimson rivers of the annual salmon run. This year’s Salute to the Sockeye Festival is September 28th to October 21st. No prize for guessing which bead the Society chose to tell their story!
Some people like the mystery of discovering what bead is at each location, but if you want a sneak-peep at any of the signature beads, including Captain’s Village Marina at Scotch Creek, just take a little detour to Beads & Maps. Visit this boaters paradise to admire the cutting-edge boats or to rent one and feel the lake breeze on your face. You could also take the opportunity to learn how to wakesurf, or to browse the store and discover a top-notch selection of wakeboards, surf boards, swimwear, and more.

Our trails are growing as swiftly as a grapevine in the spring, and we are delighted to have added Recline Ridge Vineyards & Winery at Tappen to the BeadTrails experience; Being north of the 50th parallel means that while the region’s grapes are still drenched in summer sunshine, the cooler evenings add delicious character to the wines. You can even pick up Wine2Go in a can – see dreams do come true!
What better way to discover the adventurous essence of the area than to call in to the Sicamous Chamber & Visitor Centre? The friendly staff will tell you all about the warm water beaches and the delightful Enchanted Forest, and they will give you directions to wineries and gift shops, including our very own Happy Corkers Wines & Gifts. At Happy Corkers you can pick out a gift basket, take home a winemaking kit or make wine on the premises - see where the Happy comes in? And to add to the experience pick out your favourite aromatherapy or candle scent.
If touring and tasting at a distillery tickles your fancy you should head on out to After Dark Distillery where you are encouraged to tap into your rebellious side and sample some Monashee Mountain Moonshine! Fun facts: The After Dark building used to be a bowling alley, and the distillery only uses ingredients grown and farmed in 100 mile radius of Siicamous!
We so appreciate it when you give us feedback about your adventures on the BeadTrails so do remember to connect with us on facebook, Instagram and Twitter!
